Romantic thriller genre - an introduction
Romantic thrillers are very popular and have endured across the ages. Some people differentiate them from romantic suspense, and some don't. Romantic thrillers involve national or international foes, protagonists who meet during a global disaster, spies, detectives, international intrigue. Some themes can include learning not to pre-judge people, redemption, recovery from grief and proof of innocence. In contrast, romantic suspense involves smaller scale conflict between a small group of characters. Internal conflict can involve deciding whether or not to trust the love interest, or moral conflict where characters must choose between their own safety, their loved ones' safety and overcoming adversity when facing dangerous criminals. Larger scale conflict involves politics, espionage and conflict with more minor characters.
